This contract is meant for informational purposes only. Please do not print and sign, I will provide you with a hard copy to sign when you pick your puppy up. Please ask any questions prior to pick-up day.
This puppy is being sold with a non-breeding, limited AKC registration. Limited AKC registration means that litters produced by this dog are not eligible for AKC registration. This is a tool which a breeder can use to protect their breeding program and bloodlines. A limited registration may only be removed upon written permission from the breeder to the American Kennel Club.
This puppy has been examined by our veterinarian and found to be free of any visible and/or obvious health problems. It is the responsibility of the buyer to take the puppy to a veterinarian of their choice within 72 hours if they want a second opinion on the health of the puppy. If not, they agree that they
accept the decision of the breeder’s veterinarian that this puppy is healthy with no obvious illness or genetic defects.
30 DAY RETURN PRIVILEGE
If for any reason you find that this puppy is unsuitable to your lifestyle, you may return the puppy to Atlas Labradors within THIRTY days of purchase. You will receive a refund, minus the original deposit as well as any bills incurred with veterinary care, after the puppy has been quarantined for 30 days and given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian. This process is necessary due to the fact that we cannot guarantee what the puppy has been exposed to while not in our care, and we must protect the other dogs and puppies in our care. Refunds on puppies returned after 30 days are at the discretion of the breeder.
WARRANTY ON GENETIC HEALTH
Your puppy is guaranteed for life from being affected by the following genetic diseases and/or genes: (This does not include carrier status, which will not affect the health of your dog and is only relevant in a breeding animal.) Centronuclear Myopathy, Degenerative Myopathy, Exercise-Induced Collapse, Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Progressive Rod-Cone Degeneration, Retinal Dysplasia/Ocuskeletal Dysplasia 1, Skeletal Dysplasia 2, and the D Locus (Dilute) gene.
We guarantee that the sire and dam of every puppy we produce has been rigorously health tested to the highest standards of the veterinary community and are happy to provide proof of these tests. We perform all tests for the Labrador retriever breed according to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), as well as several that are not required. This testing gives each puppy the best chance at ideal health and includes the following: OFA hip radiographs (passing score), OFA elbow radiographs (passing score), OFA eye exam (performed by a Canine Opthalmologist), OFA cardiac exam on at least the sire (auscultation and/or color echocardiogram), and a full Labrador-specific genetic panel from Paw Print Genetics or DDC Veterinary.
Except for the diseases listed above, we cannot guarantee the puppy after the initial 30-day period. It is impossible to guarantee that the puppy will never develop conditions caused by polygenic genes such as hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), tricuspid valve dysplasia etc. Sometimes, a full pedigree of healthy non-affected adults can produce a puppy with one of these conditions, which is 100% out of the control of any breeder, especially if the proper precautions have been taken. These conditions are also often caused by environmental and nutritional factors which are also out of our control once ownership is transferred to the buyer. By rigorously health testing our adult dogs, we have given our puppies the best chance at living a healthy life, free of debilitating conditions. If your dog develops hip dysplasia or any other health problem, please contact us immediately so we can work with you and your veterinarian to develop a plan that works for all parties involved. We stand behind the dogs we produce and therefore the health of the dog and happiness of all parties involved is of utmost importance, however any compensation is at the sole discretion of the breeder.
Parasites of any kind are not covered under any sort of health guarantee. Parasites such as worms, giardia, coccidia, etc are considered “normal” and common in young puppies. Your puppy has been de-wormed appropriately, however, parasites are easily transmitted within large groups of dogs and can be difficult to eradicate completely before separating the puppy from his or her littermates. Your puppy will most likely require additional anti-parasitic treatments as a preventative which is considered standard puppy care.
The purchaser agrees never to sell or give this puppy to any pet shop, rescue organization, humane society, puppy mill, or any similar institution. If the purchaser decides to give up this dog, they must return the dog to Atlas Labradors immediately. We will always take our dogs back in any condition and at any age, no questions asked. Please note that no refund will be provided as the care and correct placement of a returned older dog can cost us a significant amount of money.
The purchaser agrees to wait until at least 24 months of age to neuter a male puppy and 18 months of age to spay a female puppy. Hormones are extremely important to the growth and long term health of your puppy. Removing sex organs before maturity can cause growth, health, and behavioral issues. The only alternatives we approve of before these ages are vasectomy or ovary-sparing spay because the hormonal regulation of the dog’s body is not affected by these procedures. Please note that this means you will most likely experience one to two heat cycles with your female puppy.
The purchaser agrees to keep the dog at a proper weight for his or her body type. The dog must always be provided with adequate housing. The dog must primarily live indoors as we do not sell dogs to live outdoors full time. The dog must always be fed the correct amount of food for his age and body weight and free choice water must always be available during daytime hours when not crated. The dog may not ever be fed a grain-free diet nor an unbalanced raw or home cooked diet. Adequate veterinary care, including vaccines, heartworm preventative, and de-worming medication must be administered to the dog at the correct ages and intervals.
By signing this contract you agree to the terms stated herein, as well as a purchase price of $3500 plus CT State Sales Tax. Signature of this contract is considered receipt of purchase. No guarantees or warranties, expressed or implied, are given by Atlas Labradors, the Seller, except those stated herein.
